Minecraft - Data Packs

My own vanilla+ custom recipe tweaks for Minecraft!

With Minecraft's 1.13 update, the game introduced the concept of 'data packs'- user-defined .json files that could modify the game in various ways. So, I decided to implement some helpful quality-of-life improvements to the game via custom recipes, and released them on reddit with a very positive response!

Here's a brief overview of the data packs I've released so far. The intent with these recipes was to simply make a few small aspects of the vanilla game more convenient / less tedious, without affecting gameplay or the game's balance- so you can still feel like you're getting a truly 'vanilla' experience.

Shortcut Recipes
Convenient recipes for quickly making sticks, chests, hoppers, repeaters, dispensers & special minecarts- the same cost, but now with less effort required! (Inspired by the mods 'Quark' & 'Extra Utilities'.)

Logical Uncrafting
Recipes to undo unnecessarily irreversable crafts- turning slabs, carpets & glass panes back into their full blocks, unpacking nether wart & clay blocks, and breaking bookshelves down into books.

Proper Stair Math
Stairs make 8 per craft rather than 4. It makes more sense, volumetrically speaking- and crafting slabs isn't a lossy process, so why should stairs be? (Also (optionally) adds uncrafting recipes.)

Improved Dyeing
Allows recolouring of any combination of coloured blocks, as well as the ability to remove colour from stained glass & terracotta with ice. (Inspired by the Hermitcraft server)

Flint Stripping
Convenient crafting recipes to use flint for some things that require in-world interaction to create, to reduce tedium in larger quantities: carving pumpkins, stripping logs & cutting paths.

Installation
https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Data_pack#Usage
Unlike texture/resource packs which have been available in the game for a long time, 'data packs' aren't installed on the client- they actually need to be installed on the server side, by placing the .zip files inside the 'datapack' directory of the world save.

The data pack system is completely modular, so you can download & install packs individually as desired.
Additionally, my data packs also include special 'advancement triggers' so that, as with regular recipes, these custom recipes will be added to your recipe book automatically when you collect either some relevant ingredients or the item itself- so you don't have to remember them!

  1. Love this very much. And thank you so much for the Bark recipes! Small mention for Improved Dying. The Copncrete will not work on a server. You'll get a server error saying they can't find those recipes.
